,What can we say about the man whose vision led to the founding of Awe Star and whose Bible teaching underlies so much of what this ministry and those who have passed through it over the years have accomplished for the kingdom? What can we say about the husband of the most beautiful woman in the world, the father of the two most loyal sons in the world and the beloved Poppy of the three “Moore Boys” who, even at their young ages, are quickly taking up his mantle? Turns out we don’t have to say a lot, because he says it himself. Every week, Dr. Walker Moore shares personal stories and wisdom in his “Rite of Passage” column found online and in print for the “Baptist Messenger.” He’s also said it in books like “You Wanna Pierce What?, “ “Rite of Passage Parenting,” “ Rite of Passage Parenting Workbook” and “Escape the Lie.” Added to that are the three books in his new Hope & Humor series, which share some of his favorite “Messenger” columns, including his most recent release, “A Very Merry Aqua Velva Christmas,” which adds recipes to the mix of hope and humor. When Walker speaks, people listen. The anointing on his life that people recognized when a stammering student gave a sermon at a small Baptist church and received a call as pastor is the same anointing people recognized as he became a national figure in student ministry as well as an international youth leader and missions expert. He is equally comfortable in the hammock of a jungle hut as in his surround-sound movie room (don’t ask him about how he built it unless you’re prepared for a 30-minute presentation) and takes as much joy eating Spam and macaroni on the mission field as he does the multiple courses of an embassy banquet. What underlies Walker’s speaking and teaching, however, is not his missionary expertise or his years of experience working with students. It’s not his hard-fought degree from Hannibal-LaGrange or his honorary doctorate. What sets Walker and his teaching apart is what he would call his “living, loving relationship with the God of the universe.” This relationship allows him to look into Scripture and see what others don’t—until he shares with them. It’s what has moved tens of thousands to come to Christ under his teaching and prompted thousands of students to give up a Christmas or spring break, a summer or a lifetime to serve on the mission field. It’s what leaves students remembering phrases like “Willing Witness + Seeking Soul = Divine Encounter,” “heartbeat of obedience” or “our disappointment is His divine appointment” long past their time of sitting under Walker’s teaching. At this year’s iGO, Nov. 8-9, 2019, at Evergreen Baptist Church in Bixby, Oklahoma, don’t come expecting the founder and first president of Awe Star to share secondhand stories or tired truths. Prepare yourself and your heart for a fresh word from God, because Walker will bring it. And when he does, your life and your heart will see the unseen.
