Peggy Nunley, President of Awe Star Missions
... a redeemed chick who loves Jesus a lot and wants His fame spread to every people, tribe and nation!
On August 9, 2018, Peggy stepped in as the new president of Awe Star Ministries. Although this was a new position for her, Awe Star has been a part of Peggy's life since she was 15 years old. in 1993 when Awe Star Missions was launched and took their first teams of students to the mission field, Peggy was among them. For 10 years, Peggy served with Awe Star as a student and then leader and onto a staff position as Director of Missions, where the founder of Awe Star became one of Peggy's mentors.
In November of 2002, Peggy was married to Dr. Joel Nunley. Together, they began using medicine as a means to enter more restricted areas of the world where it was unsafe to take students. Peggy left Awe Star, and in 2006, the Nunleys started a parachurch ministry called Breaking Borders. Through Breaking Borders, Peggy and Joel led multiple medical teams into North Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Peggy also trained women, students and medical professionals to go cross-culturally into these areas as effective tent-making ministers. She has trained and motivated Christians to live the lifestyle of a missionary in lands where the gospel is most restricted. From refugee camps to the underground church to teams of student missionaries, Peggy uses teaching as a means to mobilize, encourage and equip believers both in the U.S. and abroad.
Peggy has spoken in many venues, from convention centers, women retreats, youth conferences to refugee camps. She lives to proclaim the gospel of Christ no matter what the situation, whether hidden in the floorboard while being transported to underground churches in the Middle East or standing in front of 110,000 people in Eastern Europe. Peggy's story is powerful and unique. From ashes to beauty God has taken a life filled with domestic violence, foster care and sexual abuse to a life of passionate purpose, where she proclaims the healing power of the gospel to the world's most marginalized, broken, and forgotten.
God’s call has taken Peggy to over 40 nations. In Africa, she assisted church-planting pastors in The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria. She has worked with the underground church in Egypt, Sudan and Afghanistan; trekked among the world’s most primitive unreached peoples of Uganda; and counseled Syrian refugees and imprisoned women in Panama and diverse parts of Africa. Traveling both stateside and abroad, she challenges believers to be on mission with Christ by taking bold steps of obedience wherever God has placed them. Peggy’s passion is to see the glory and fame of King Jesus restored among all nations, tribes and peoples, and she believes the local church is God's means to restore hope to the hopeless and fulfill the Great Commission.
Peggy is also the mother of four beautiful young children, three biological and one adopted. While stateside, she lives in Oklahoma, where she serves as president of Awe Star Ministries. Through Awe Star, Peggy works with hundreds of medical professionals through short-term medical missions. She also serves thousands of student missionaries, challenging them into Disciple-Making and to embrace their spiritual rite of passage by going on a short-term mission trip. Peggy longs to see a generation of students and professionals mobilized to every corner of the earth.
Peggy and her husband believe God is working locally and globally to restore the fame of Christ among all people. She believes her personal responsibility is to fulfill the Great Commission by going and mobilizing a generation into Jesus Ministry, ushering in the return of Christ.
