Mexico Spring Break 2010

Arrived in Tulsa!

We just wanted to let everyone know that the team arrived home safely to Tulsa!  Don’t forget to ask them about their trip!

Final Update

Wow! What and incredible week we have had! The presence of the Lord has been powerful, prevalent and pervasive! We are so thankful for all we have seen Him do. Every student has led someone or multiple people to Christ! I wish you could see them in action.

They are going to return broken for this nation and it´s people. What a privilege to see heart changes take place among this team.

s7300433-large Yesterday, one of our teams ministered in the home of a lesbian mother of three, who lived in a desperate situation with a sinking foundation. Quite an analogy for her spiritual condition. The team was very moved and found it difficult to cope with their situation.

img_5284-large The other team found themselves at a migrant house, where deported nationals of many nations south of the US, can stay for a few nights. These men have nothing left. Even their id´s have been confiscated by our government. This creates difficulties unimaginable for them. One of our team members is a pastor. He delivered a message that was anointed, and we saw 35 to 40 of 55 people surrender their lives to Jesus.

We cannot wait to be back with you to tell you more! Please look forward to hearing our stories!

Please pray for mercy at the border crossing and safe travel home. We are anxious to tell you much!

Thanks for all of your prayer support!

The best laid plans

Today has been a day of punts. Technical difficulties plagued one team but they persevered with the drama demonstration anyway and perhaps more were saved as a result. The crowds were curious and drew near in the open market place, seeking to find truth and finding what they were looking for in Jesus! The second site at the market was one of pauses in the drama for traffic interruptions and yet they continued to persevere, producing many salvations as a result. God’s ways aren’t always our own ways and we praise Him for His sovereign hand in the midst of our plans!

Team B performed the drama on the corner of a neighborhood yet among many businesses. We thought it might be an act of worship for an “audience of one” but after making attempts to invite them and as we got set up to begin, we had some interested folks. The ministry teams were able to share with many surrounding the area which delayed our schedule a bit. The pastor at the church on the schedule was unavailable so we went to a school, but they had just dismissed for the day, so Annabelle took us to a home of a lesbian mom and her 3 daughters, the oldest girl has helped serve with Annabelle. We had intentions of praying over the family from the outside but they invited us in. The whole team squeezed in their tiny one room home (with the roof caving at an angle) surrounding the only bed. The students were moved at the evidence of poverty. The mom was very touched by our prayers and we continue to pray that she will find the joy and love that only Christ can bring. Please pray for the 3 beautiful daughters; their health, provision, the influences that surround them but especially for their hearts to be softened so that the truth of the gospel can reach them.

We are so very thankful for you and your partnership with us in ministry. Although we’re invigorated by what God is doing here, we are tired, so pray that God will strengthen us beyond what we think we are able.

Son-shiny day!

Yesterday afternoon plans fell through for presenting the drama at Walmart, and a nearby pastor asked if he could have it at his church.  At first, only children filled the front row, but as the drama was demonstrated and Brent preached, the church filled with adults and God moved mightily among the people.  They didn’t want the team to leave and even asked Brent to return for a revival at a later time!

Kenny and Deanna’s team went to an immigration facility/shelter to serve dinner, wash dishes, present the drama and visit with the transients.  Many of the young men staying there were trying to cross the border from Honduras or traveling in some capacity with little means to sustain them.  Ten young men are new believers now!!  They were very appreciative of our time and the drama and we got to shake hands and show love and hope to a group of people in dire circumstances.

Last night, we got a special visitation from the Lord.  Students responded in a powerful way to the hand of God in a teaching on the “Throne of Christ.”  In closing, we worshipped in song and praise to our King for about an hour.

After a day of rain and cooler weather, today the sun has come out and warmed us as the Son continues to work among us!  We are thankful!

One team went to a flea market this morning and another to boys detention home.  Both groups were fruitful in being a part of about a dozen salvations each!

Thank you so much for your prayers for God is sustaining us through them.  We appreciate your friendship and love and we just can’t wait to share the many ways God is moving to you in person!   Keep praying for good health, so far no sickness! humble hearts and for our faith to stay strong!  We love you!

Salvation has come to Nuevo Laredo!

Yesterday afternoon and this morning, we have seen many come to the saving knowledge of Christ! Many have accepted Him as Lord and Savior.

Functioning as two teams has its challenges, but the advantage is a double portion of blessing as both teams have been used by the Lord to speak truth into the lives of those who inhabit this city.  From plazas to drug/alcohol rehabilitation centers, we have seen the Lords hand move. These students are so excited about what God is doing that the celebrations are consistent!

Our last drama for the morning, we joined forces. Our two teams came together and formed one enormous team to show truth to public school children. We had the world’s longest dragon (formed by evil knights and the Satan figure). The tail of the dragon, our smallest team member, got whipped around every turn, causing the school children to squeal with glee. When Christ was crucified, the children clapped. This gives us insight into what they believe. This cultures still sees Him as being on the cross. They are only beginning to understand His desire for relationship.

We praise God that truth is being revealed in the face of such darkness! Even last night at dinner, our cook (okay, he’s really a chef, but I don’t want you thinking we are staying at a 5 star hotel) brought in a man off the street and asked us to share Jesus with him. Guess what? He’s now your brother in Christ! You prayed. God moved.

The team is feasting on peanut butter and jelly (is that possible?) for lunch. After, they will pull together for a time of sharing personal testimonies. Later, after siesta time is over (for the locals) we will head back out for afternoon ministry.

We cannot wait to see how the Lord will move! We saw alcoholics and drug addicts get set free this morning! What can He have planned next! Interestingly, it poured rain all night and part of the morning. This resulted in the cancellation of our original morning plan. This opened the door for the opportunity to minister in the rehab facilities. Is God in control or what!?

Thank you for partnering with us through your prayer journey. We know that you are laboring before the Lord, because we are seeing the captives set free! Praise God!

Please pray for team unity, stamina, joy in the journey, and for our lights to shine before men.

We miss you, but are thrilled to be in the center of His will… the safest place to be!

We had an amazing Sunday of worship, Word and training! The students displayed fluid attitudes throughout the day. They spent six hours training, and had all of the basics down! They ate a good dinner,  and spent time in small groups, getting to know each other. Before bed the team spent time in fellowship. A great deal of laughter and energy was spent preparing for ministry.

This morning, the team arose to spend time in the Word, then had breakfast, and began to polish the drama that will be their ministry tool. They will eat lunch shortly, and then go into a time of discipleship, before heading out to minister, later this afternoon.

Yesterday, many students accepted the challenge of laying down their childhood and taking on adult responsibilities. They entered into a Rite of Passage, and will continue walking that out as ministry begins.

Today, they will learn the “Awe Factors,” and learn how to apply them in their lives. These will be directly deployed in their ministry later today.

Please pray for the team as they make final preparations before ministry begins. Pray for the nationals who will hear the Gospel, for supple hearts and decisive action. These students are hungry to share and we cannot wait to see how the Lord will move!

Hello friends and family!!!

We arrived in good time and without any delays. Praise God for His protection and care. After a good night of rest and a hearty breakfast of fruit and cereal, we worshipped this morning here at Primeria Iglesia Baptista and shared a testimony and a couple of worship songs. The congregation is so warm and accommodating and Pastor Alba and Annabelle serve us well. The leadership met to go over the schedule for the week, the students were taught from the Word and now are starting the drama training. We are thankful we have a good number of alumni to move the training along.

NL SB Team 2010

Thank you so much for your prayers and your love and concern. We appreciate your messages of encouragement. It looks to be a well filled week and we pray for those who are ready to hear and receive the life changing message of Jesus. Pray that we are changed as well. Seeing the need and generosity of the population here touches even the most hardened heart. May we make the most of every opportunity we are given.

It appears that God has put together an amazing team of focused and dedicated young people. I have enjoyed talking with many and look forward to getting to know them better. Thank you for your obedience parents in allowing them to come. Thank you for “trusting in the Lord with all your heart and not leaning on your own understanding.” We strive to “acknowledge Him in all our ways, and He will make our paths straight.” Prov 3:5-6

We are grateful we have a God that is sovereign over all things!

Safe And Excited

The team has arrived at the church and is setting up for the week. Katie Kyle, said the team is really coming together and their sense of purpose is growing. Brent Higgins reported that going across the border went smoothly and everything is fine. Continue to pray for this team, tomorrow they will learn the drama “Freedom” which is their main ministry tool. Pray that God will bring seeking souls into their path, pray for 1st Baptist of Nuevo Laredo as they lead in this time of evangelism. Tomorrow we will have another report and hopefully pictures posted. Again, thanks to all the parents who let their children go on this trip, Awe Star is committed to their safety and spiritual growth. Mom and Dad: we strive to include as many students as possible in our photos, but please do not be alarmed if your student does not appear daily. Keep watching!

PATIENCE, PLEASE (IMPORTANT!): Internet access in international locations can be inconsistent, and our busy travel/ministry schedule sometimes keeps us from posting and/or loading new photos. When you don’t see an update, please keep praying and know that we are doing our best to stay in touch!

COMMENTS: This vital feature allows parents, friends, pastors and other supporters to leave comments on the posts. Comments remind the leadership and team of your love, support and especially of your prayers on their behalf. To leave a comment, simply click the link below each post that shows the number of comments. A page will open that allows you to leave yours. Please keep all comments:

1. Respectful and upbeat: Anything else has the potential to detract from our important work.

2. Appropriate: All comments will be reviewed by Awe Star staff or leadership before they appear. This prevents spam or other potential problems for our missionaries.
