Colon: Governor, NO – Jesus, Yes

Today we went an hour and a half away from Panama City to Colon. Actually we went from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Colon, being a seaport, is a much darker city with great opportunities to evangelize.

We started out in a Kuna Community that was celebrating its thirteenth anniversary. The pastor who took us there was kicked out of the community for starting a Baptist church. He has never stopped loving those people and keeps coming back to share the gospel with them. Our second performance was in downtown Colon where the governor was supposed to show up. He didn’t . . . but Jesus did. We had an incredible ministry to a variety of people. We saw the homeless, mothers, fathers, businessmen and children all come to Jesus today.

At lunchtime, we ate by the ocean with many ships waiting to enter the Panama Canal. We took a group shot for all of our family and friends back home. Out last ministry was to join a church in a citywide talent show with our drama as the highlight. The governor was supposed to attend. Again, he was a no-show but . . . Jesus showed up. Conner gave the invitation and many cross-sections of life responded to the good news. Last but not least, Drew wanted to send a shout-out to his little brother. Happy 11th birthday! Drew has a picture up for you.

Tomorrow we leave for the jungle to the village of Icandi. We will not have Internet access until Saturday evening. We will post pictures and stories then. Again, thanks for your prayers. The team is one extremely healthy and happy bunch. It is so good to see the harmony among these team.

Tomorrow’s breakfast is at 5:30 and we leave for the jungle at six. Please continue to pray for people to come to Christ!

Great Day!

Today, we worked with a church planter who has started one church and is trying to establish three more. We started out in a low-income housing project playing Duck, Duck, Goose with the children. Within thirty minutes we had a good-sized crowd and many gave their lives to Christ.

Our second site to minister was on top of a mountain underneath a big tree. We even had a monkey in the crowd! With people surrounding us and hanging from the tree many embraced the message and gave their hearts to Jesus. We went to another housing project where it began to rain. The missionaries presented the gospel in the tightest of quarters. But again God moved upon the people and many gave their lives to Jesus.

Our last gospel presentation took place in the midst of a deluge with students wet from head to toe inviting people to come and hear about Jesus. Even our PA system blaring at full blast barely made it over the din of the rain falling on the tin roof. But again, God showed up and many gave their lives to Christ.

Tonight we are getting to bed early. Our costumes are being dried and at 7:30am we head to Colon where we have been invited by the Governor for a special audience at noon. Pray for God to continue to bring us seeking souls. Everyone is happy, healthy and sad that the trip is half way done.

Day One in Panama (Stories and Pictures)

After a short night’s  sleep the team left this morning for Cinco De Mayo, a street that has been closed off to traffic and turned into a pedestrian mall with various stores on both sides. Immediately, this team went into ministry mode and started leading people to Christ. As the day wore on we keep on presenting the gospel on this street. We were supposed to go to other places but God kept delaying us.

When we got off the bus to walk to our last site for the day we saw men with musical instruments tuning up to play. Walker and Marielena went over and began a conversation with the group only to find out that they were the National Guard (Secret Police) entrusted to watch the President of Panama. They went on to tell us that they had started a band within the Guard and were rehearsing. God just opened the door and allowed us to tell about our students embracing the performing arts. The guards we met introduced us to their superintendent. Within five minutes he called the group together so we could share our drama with them. When it came to the invitation time these men and women prayed out loud to receive Christ. In front of their peers, they made their decisions public by raising their hands to show that Jesus had come into their hearts.

The story goes on but we will wait for our missionaries to come home to tell you of what great things God has done today! Everybody is well and excited about God has for us. Continue to pray for divine encounters. Pray that God will give the missionaries the desires of their heart to see many come to Christ. We are tired and going to bed early . . . but we are satisfied!

Arrived in Panama!

Today was spent going from Dallas to Panama. Everything went smoothly and we arrived at our dorm around 11:00 PM. Each student is excited about starting ministry tomorrow.  Continue to pray for our team that God would give us many divine encounters. It is an incredible team of young hearts that are sold out to Jesus. We have a new picture of the group in the Panama City airport.

Everybody is in Dallas!

The team started with incredible unity and it is growing deeper. Today the team is practicing the drama “Freedom.” This will be the main tool we will use to present the gospel. The  students have also been in the Word learning how to live the lifestyle of a missionary. We will leave early tomorrow morning and arrive late that night. We have posted some pictures for you to see what the students are doing in Dallas.  We ask that you pray for the team’s safety, health, and divine encounters.  Thank you for your prayers and support.

Schedule for the Week

We wanted you to know our tentative schedule for the week so you could be praying over it. Schedules on the field seldom go according to our plan, but always go according to His. That being said, here is our plan:
Sunday – arrive in Panama around 8:30 pm
Mon – Tue – minister in Panama City
Wed – Thu – head to the jungle village of Icandi to minister
Fri – return to Panama City and shop, then return to ministry
Sat – minister in Colon. This is a very dark city, spiritually speaking.
Sun – return to the USA and debrief
Mon – return home

We’ll update you as we can along the way. We will not be able to update from the jungle, so there will be a break in communication during that time.

Please pray for this team to become unified and to walk under the Lord’s authority and in His power. Please pray for health and safe travel. Importantly, please pray for seeds to be planted, and a harvest to be reaped!

Pre-Trip Instructions

Welcome to the Awe Star Ministries Trip Updates! This page will give you an inside scoop on the great things God is doing in and through our team in Panama. Here, Team Leaders will post frequent updates via text and pictures. You can access the text updates on this page and view trip pictures by clicking the “pictures” tab located at the top of the page. In the updates, you will read stories of salvation, revival and other ways God is changing lives. You will see pictures of students ministering, studying and fellowshipping with team members and the people of Panama.

Our Trip Updates have a new format this year. Here’s how it works:

TEXT: View text updates immediately above this note. The most recent updates appear at the top in order of their posting (generally by date).

PHOTOS: View photo updates by clicking on the “Pictures” tab at the top of the page. Pictures will be posted in this area as well as pictures being embedded into the text updates. Please download and utilize the pictures freely to encourage others to pray. Mom and Dad: we strive to include as many students as possible in our photos, but please do not be alarmed if your student does not appear daily. Keep watching! Also, on the left hand side of our page, you will see some of our most recent photos, but to view them all, be sure to click the “Pictures” tab at the top of the page.

PATIENCE, PLEASE (IMPORTANT!): Internet access in international locations can be inconsistent, and our busy travel/ministry schedule sometimes keeps us from posting and/or loading new photos. When you don’t see an update, please keep praying and know that we are doing our best to stay in touch!

COMMENTS: This vital feature allows parents, friends, pastors and other supporters to leave comments on the posts. Comments remind the leadership and team of your love, support and especially of your prayers on their behalf. To leave a comment, simply click the title of the post next to the date. This will lead you to the specific post’s page where you can comment at the bottom. A page will open that allows you to leave yours. Please keep all comments:

1. Respectful and upbeat: Anything else has the potential to detract from our important work.

2. Appropriate: All comments will be reviewed by Awe Star staff or leadership before they appear. This prevents spam or other potential problems for our missionaries.

QUESTIONS: If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at kenny@awestar.org. You can also call the Awe Star Ministries office at (918)664-3500.

We are so grateful for the many ways you have already supported this group of student missionaries. Bathed in prayer, they will do incredible things for our Creator. They will return with many stories of the ways God touched hearts and changed lives—including their own.
