Our students ushered in the new year with the people of Primera Iglesia Bautista. We shared a service with them where we heard from Walker and Dr. Rick Patrick. The service adjourned for a bit so we could eat dinner together, and then we finished up with some praising and praying, what a way to begin a new year!
All this happened, though, after a full day of ministry. Each team was able to share Christ through the drama at five different sites. Team K was able to present at a market, where they encountered a man of favor who allowed them to use his space at the market to present the drama. There was one site that they were able to present to a bunch of children; this church was primarily attended by children, and there were several little ones who accepted Christ. “Suffer not the little children to come unto Me…”
During the afternoon, the team was able to have a taste of the culture as they shared some burritos. This experience was suggested by a pastor, and the team shared some encouragement and love with him while they all enjoyed their burritos together. The last drama team K did in 2009 was an opportunity to encourage a church in a small community while ministering to children. What a way to finish out the year!
Team W had only three dramas on the schedule, but we were able to do two more! Praise God for the opportunities to share more! We began in an area that had some community issues, but what a ministry we had there! So many children came out to view the drama, and our dragon got really into the part, causing a few of them to jump. Following that, we were able to perform in a very poor part of town, las colonias, and again ministered to many children. Walker took the opportunity to teach at this site, teaching us that Jesus first of all ministered to us by giving His blood, but the second most important thing He ever did is that He gets down with us in the mud. As Walker was teaching, a little boy walked up and gave him another handful of dirt, just as if he was asking Walker, asking us, to please get our hands dirty for them. For us to give up our cleanliness, our perfect lives, to get our hands dirty and actually care about these people.
The evening of ministry was closed out for team W by a drama for an audience of One. With no one there, we reminded ourselves why we traveled all this way, why we minister, why we get dirty—to worship God. After the drama, the students fell down on their knees and faces crying out in prayer and praise, a beautiful sight to behold.
We are looking forward to an afternoon of ministry, and then we will say goodbye to our friends from Alton, IL. They begin their return journey this evening, and the rest of the team will combine to minister once more to another church. As for the rest of us, we will begin our journey home early tomorrow morning. Thank you for your prayers, and please continue praying for us to finish strong.
Your servants,
Walker Moore and Whitney Hall
