Thank you all so much for your prayer support and encouraging posts this week.  Our teams had a wonderful time ministering in Nuevo Laredo, sharing the love of Christ, and learning more about what it means to live the lifestyle of a missionary.  Even though we are home, our ministry is not over.  The lessons God has taught us this week still need to be lived out, and so our ministry begins here at home, even tonight, as we share what great things God has done in Nuevo Laredo.

Again, thank you for all your prayers.  You were a part of our ministry by praying just as much as we were by going.

Your servants,

Walker Moore and Whitney Hall

Feliz Año Nuevo!

Our students ushered in the new year with the people of Primera Iglesia Bautista.  We shared a service with them where we heard from Walker and Dr. Rick Patrick.  The service adjourned for a bit so we could eat dinner together, and then we finished up with some praising and praying, what a way to begin a new year!

All this happened, though, after a full day of ministry.  Each team was able to share Christ through the drama at five different sites.  Team K was able to present at a market, where they encountered a man of favor who allowed them to use his space at the market to present the drama.  There was one site that they were able to present to a bunch of children; this church was primarily attended by children, and there were several little ones who accepted Christ.  “Suffer not the little children to come unto Me…”

During the afternoon, the team was able to have a taste of the culture as they shared some burritos.  This experience was suggested by a pastor, and the team shared some encouragement and love with him while they all enjoyed their burritos together.  The last drama team K did in 2009 was an opportunity to encourage a church in a small community while ministering to children.  What a way to finish out the year!

Team W had only three dramas on the schedule, but we were able to do two more!  Praise God for the opportunities to share more!  We began in an area that had some community issues, but what a ministry we had there!  So many children came out to view the drama, and our dragon got really into the part, causing a few of them to jump.  Following that, we were able to perform in a very poor part of town, las colonias, and again ministered to many children.  Walker took the opportunity to teach at this site, teaching us that Jesus first of all ministered to us by giving His blood, but the second most important thing He ever did is that He gets down with us in the mud.  As Walker was teaching, a little boy walked up and gave him another handful of dirt, just as if he was asking Walker, asking us, to please get our hands dirty for them.  For us to give up our cleanliness, our perfect lives, to get our hands dirty and actually care about these people.

The evening of ministry was closed out for team W by a drama for an audience of One.  With no one there, we reminded ourselves why we traveled all this way, why we minister, why we get dirty—to worship God.  After the drama, the students fell down on their knees and faces crying out in prayer and praise, a beautiful sight to behold.

We are looking forward to an afternoon of ministry, and then we will say goodbye to our friends from Alton, IL.  They begin their return journey this evening, and the rest of the team will combine to minister once more to another church.  As for the rest of us, we will begin our journey home early tomorrow morning.  Thank you for your prayers, and please continue praying for us to finish strong.

Walker Moore and Whitney Hall

More Opportunities To Share…

December 30th, 2009 aweedit 9 comments

This morning the team awoke to spend an hour in the Word.  These students are learning the importance of digging into the Bible and having the Lord reveal truth.  This morning, we allowed our students to spend some time in the marketplace, and they were able to share their faith and pray for other believers in the midst of doing a bit of shopping.

This afternoon, the W and K teams went their separate ways.  Team W headed to a plaza where a news crew happened to be.  They were filmed by a news crew to be aired sometime tonight.  What are the odds of that?  (100%)  This site was followed by another plaza and then onto the mall containing a huge Wal-Mart.  We are so proud of our team and how they minister; they are always looking for opportunities and were even able to share with a lady in the restroom!

Team K began their drama ministry today at a market, having the opportunity to move the drama down the street and do it again. At the market, one of the students had the opportunity to share with a lady who believed in reincarnation.  While the lady did not accept Christ, a seed was planted, and the student learned about being broken for those people who reject God.   Following this, team K took the drama to a dilapidated part of town, sharing with people who had little hope.  Another ministry site presented itself, and the students learned an important lesson—the drama we use is simply a tool to minister, but it is the Holy Spirit who draws people.  Too crowded a place to perform, they shared with the people, and there was still a great response!

And wait, there’s more!  Not only did one team get interviewed by a TV station today, but both teams did separately! One was a local station and another does a Hispanic station in Huston and Los Angeles.  Who knew we could come to Mexico to witness to those back home?

Praise God for the lives that have been changed today!  Please keep praying for God to arrange divine appointments and for our eyes to be opened to recognizing them.

Walker Moore & Whitney Hall

Rain, Rain Go Away!

December 29th, 2009 aweedit 14 comments

Today was a wonderful first day of ministry! It was mildly complicated by the drizzling rain all day long! But the gospel is good, even in the rain. The two teams had the opportunity to perform the drama at a rehabilitation center, an orphanage, Wal-Mart, a plaza, and the world’s tiniest room. Each performance brought stories of God’s sovereign hand in bringing people to saving faith in Him.

A ministry team approached a couple this afternoon at Wal-Mart to share the gospel with them. The ministry team leader was a girl, and the girl counterpart said she already had a relationship with Christ, but encouraged us to share with her male friend – real relationship is unknown – so the distractor of the group, a boy,  stepped up and had the opportunity to lead the man to Christ. This was the first time the student had walked through the process with someone. Praise the Lord! It had been a wonderful day.

The rain kept us fighting for warmth, but the joy of the Lord was our strength!

The students are doing so well. It has been a blessing already to watch them share, learn and grow. We look forward to what the rest of the week will hold!

Arrived Safe and Sound

December 28th, 2009 aweedit 9 comments

Buenos Dias!  Good morning from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico!  Thank you for your prayers yesterday as we traveled.  Our trip was safe even through the snow and ice, and our team is all together now, all 42 of us.  God granted us favor at the border, and we had an easy  crossing.  We arrived late last night and settled into our new home for the week.  Following that, we headed to bed for some much needed rest.

This morning, we have already been up and in the Word, shared a meal together, and spent some time praising God and asking for His blessing on today.  We also ask for your continued prayers.  The students have a lot to take in and learn today between different teaching sessions and drama training.  We will spend the majority of the day training the drama.  Soon, tomorrow at the latest, we will begin ministry with the nationals; we are already ministering to each other as we pray for each other and build relationships.  Thank you for your prayers and support.

Walker Moore & Whitney Hall

Welcome to the Awe Star Ministries Trip Updates! This page will give you an inside scoop on the great things God is doing in and through our team in Mexico. Here, Team Leaders will post frequent updates via text and pictures. You can access the text updates on this page and view trip pictures by clicking the “pictures” tab located at the top of the page. In the updates, you will read stories of salvation, revival and other ways God is changing lives. You will see pictures of students ministering, studying and fellowshipping with team members and the people of Mexico.

Our Trip Updates have a new format this year. Here’s how it works:

TEXT: View text updates immediately below this note. The most recent updates appear at the top in order of their posting (generally by date).

PHOTOS: View photo updates by clicking on the “photo” tab at the top of the page. Pictures will be posted in this area as well as pictures being embedded into the text updates. Please download and utilize the pictures freely to encourage others to pray. Mom and Dad: we strive to include as many students as possible in our photos, but please do not be alarmed if your student does not appear daily. Keep watching!

PATIENCE, PLEASE (IMPORTANT!): Internet access in international locations can be inconsistent, and our busy travel/ministry schedule sometimes keeps us from posting and/or loading new photos. When you don’t see an update, please keep praying and know that we are doing our best to stay in touch!

COMMENTS: This vital feature allows parents, friends, pastors and other supporters to leave comments on the posts. Comments remind the leadership and team of your love, support and especially of your prayers on their behalf. To leave a comment, simply click the link below each post that shows the number of comments. A page will open that allows you to leave yours. Please keep all comments:

1. Respectful and upbeat: Anything else has the potential to detract from our important work. Please note that messages addressed to students in the comments may not be able to be passed on.

2. Appropriate: All comments will be reviewed by Awe Star staff or leadership before they appear. This prevents spam or other potential problems for our missionaries.

QUESTIONS: If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at kenny@awestar.org. You can also call the Awe Star Ministries office at (918)664-3500.

We are so grateful for the many ways you have already supported this group of student missionaries. Bathed in prayer, they will do incredible things for our Creator. They will return with many stories of the ways God touched hearts and changed lives—including their own.
