Hey Awe Star Alumni, Have you ever returned from a trip and felt alone because no one understood the things you've learned and the great things you've seen God do? It's time to let your friends in on it. Call out four friends for five weeks of learning and seeking God together in the discipleship study Significant Five. Teach them the things you've learned about living and dwelling the awe of God, your identity in Christ, and your significant task. How awesome would it be to see your friends go with you next summer? Testimony: Richard Turner from Brittany Allen's Sig 5 group says: "I really learned a lot with this bible study. I learned how important missionary work is to the lord, not just far away missionary work but even just evangelizing in your own city, town, state, and country. Anywhere there are unsaved people is a place missionaries are needed. There isn't any place where everyone is Christian, so therefore missionaries are needed everywhere... I learned not to follow the ways of others, and to do what God would want instead of what you would want or what others would want. I also learned about a kid named B.J. who really lived his life for Christ in great ways, and how even though it seems impossible we really can truly live our lives toward Christ, glorifying Him in everything we do." |
| Dedicated to BJ Higgins October 1, 1989 - September 26, 2005 Every life is measured. It is measured by some person and some criteria, but ultimately every life is measured by God. When reading an obituary, I have measured a person's life by the length of their life and their accomplishments. Sometimes I read about a young child who lived only for a couple of hours, and I think to myself that they didn't have much of a life. What is God's purpose for a child to live only a few days or a few hours? Then I read the next obituary of someone who has lived a long and productive life. It recounts that the deceased served here and there, they were the president of this club or that organization. Usually it will say that they have been a life long member of a church. However, the real measure of a person's life is not their title or positions but their testimony. A title is what a man does. a testimony is what God does through a man. A title goes with you to the grave but a testimony lives on forever. So what goes through your mind when you hear that a fifteen year old boy has died from a mysterious illness? The first reaction is to say, "What a short life. He had so much ahead of him." But if you examine the story closer you see that this fifteen-year old we are talking about is not your ordinary fifteen-year old; he is BJ Higgins. If you measured his life in years you would say that he didn't live long enough. If you looked at what he accomplished you would say that he did more in fifteen years than most men could do in a hundred. BJ Higgins has a testimony that will bring glory and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ for centuries to come. BJ embraced his significant adult task of reaching the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ in Peru, in the summer of 2004. At age fourteen BJ was not someone who casually or carelessly followed Christ. Instead, with deep conviction and passion, he became His disciple, and sought to make Him known among all peoples by his life. He went again to Peru in the summer of 2005, and returned home to mobilize others. A few weeks after BJ came home, he came down with a mysterious infection. BJ went into a sedated coma and for forty-two days he laid unconscious. During this time over 35 countries came to his side to pray for him and untold thousands logged onto his website. Because of this young man many churches united in prayer. God saw it fit that on September 26, 2005 he went home. There were two things in his life that he didn't get to finish. 1) He was in the process of gathering a group of people his age, to lead them in discovering their significant task.becoming a World Christian. He was going to be one of the first in teaching this study called "Significant Five. out to change the world." 2) He had planned to spend his next summer being salt and light in a Muslim country. Now that he is home, this Bible study is dedicated to the Life and the Lord of BJ Higgins. The thing we need to ask for both questions is, "Who is going to take his place?" |
